We’re assuming you’ve read part 1 of our bicycle maintenance tips, but you can click above to read them again. Part 2 is going to look at some more information that can help you with regular bicycle maintenance and keep that cycling machine in its’ best working order. So let’s move on with bicycle maintenance part deux.

Your attitude to bicycle maintenance might have changed quickly from the time you said “I will love this bike forever”, and it might have changed even quicker since the time you read our part 1, but if you’re still with on this course of bicycle maintenance insights, then here’s three more things we do as cyclists to improve our bicycle maintenance.

Understand your bicycle

We’re big advocated of this, and this is understanding exactly how your bicycle should feel in perfect working order. Once you have done that, take a look at all of your bicycle parts, how to remove them, how to clean them, lube them, and then how to put them back onto your bicycle.

When you understand your bicycle, you will be much better at knowing when something is wrong, where the problem is, and what to do to fix that problem.

Treat your bicycle just like your cycling clothing

When you buy cycling clothing, you treat it well, like how it looks and wash it regularly. This should be the same for your bicycle, especially when you see how nice our cycling clothing is. Just don’t put your bike parts into your washing machine.

What you can do though, is buy some good degreaser, the correct lube and a bottle of bike wash. This means that just like your cycling clothes, you will wash it regularly, take all the dirt off it, keep an eye on any issues such as loose threads or rips and then add something to it to keep feeling nice, which in the case of your bicycle is lube and in the case of your cycling clothing, it’s fabric conditioner.

You wash clothes for hygiene purposes and to continue to look good, so do the same for your bicycle. Don’t go outside. Ever. Just stay on your turbo trainer. Of course you are going to have to go outside, but you can avoid unnecessary training outdoors when it’s cold by investing in a turbo trainer.
By buying a turbo trainer, you don’t have to sacrifice your training on cold icy days - so now you can keep up with your training and avoid any crashes on slippery roads which will be sure to put a dent in your bicycle maintenance plans. If you do buy a turbo trainer, be sure to check our online bicycle shop for turbo trainer bicycle tyres.

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading this, and we’ll likely be back with a third installment of tips on maintaining your bicycle.
